A Thousand Languages of Dance

“A Thousand Languages of Dance” was our organization’s first educational initiative and was implemented in two multicultural third-grade classes at the 132nd Primary School of Athens.

The name of the project reflects our broader four-year collaboration (2021–2025) with the school, as well as our annual interventions in the same classes, which now serve as a case study and research documentation for our work in inclusive education through dance. The project’s name marks the beginning of a long-term partnership with the school, extended over four years (2021–2025), providing valuable material for documenting and studying our interventions in the field of inclusive education through dance (see A Thousand Languages of Dance: The Research).

Over the course of thirteen weekly sessions, the children engaged in diverse activities such as music and movement games, movement exercises, songs, screenings of dance films, meetings and interviews with two dancers, visual arts reflections, and dialogue. The project culminated in an open presentation where one class observed and gave feedback to the other, strengthening collective participation and creative interaction.

Simultaneously, an educational action research and audiovisual documentation took place, contributing both to our reflective process and to the improvement of future interventions.

Through their engagement with the arts, the children were encouraged to express their experiences, emotions, and thoughts in multiple ways, cultivating skills of collaboration, active participation, and creative expression.
